Smoothies are an excellent weight loss alternative, but only if you prepare them correctly. If you don’t, well, let’s say, you’ll be drinking thousands of calories which you could easily get with a truly satisfying cup of ice cream. To make them right, you must apply some math. You need to keep the calorie count in check by choosing your ingredients wisely and measuring the ratio between them thoughtfully. Tip: Always add fiber and protein to your shake if you want to turn it into a meal replacement and actually feel full after you drink it. The following smoothie is deliciously satisfying and low-fat.

Walnuts are powerful antioxidants and proud members of the Superfoods. These nuts have a high content of Omega-3 fatty acids, copper and magnesium. These two minerals are ideal to maintain healthy bone density. Walnuts are also a great source of vitamin E (gamma-tocopherol) which aides cardiovascular function. A handful of walnuts per day, will suffice cravings and help your heart.
Blackberries are also rich in antioxidants, and vitamin C, which most of us have a deficiency of. Vitamin C is great to speed up your metabolism and a fast metabolic rate burns calories and fat more effectively. The other ingredients of this smoothie are also rich in vitamins, minerals and fiber to help you lose weight.
Ingredients
12 Oz coconut water, or plain soy milk
1 banana
1 cup of fresh or frozen blackberries
1 tbsp of walnuts, chopped
1 tbsp ground flax seeds
1 tbsp coconut flakes
Blend all the ingredients together with a couple of ice cubes to make your smoothie cold. You can always add a dash of agave nectar or honey to balance the tartness of the berries, but you probably won’t have to since the coconut flakes are already quite sweet. Friend, make it this week at home or the office and let us know if you liked it.
